June 2010

BREAKING NEWS! – On April 20, 2010, Horse Harbor Foundation was officially awarded “Accredited Equine Sanctuary” status by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries in Washington, DC, becoming only the fifth in the country and the first on the West Coast to be so recognized. In earning this distinction after an exhaustive review process of all aspects of our operation, including a site inspection by one of the country’s leading equine advocates last January, our relatively small, nonprofit horse rescue has joined the exclusive ranks of such sanctuaries as Habitat for Horses and the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch, both in Texas. The other two equine rescues to be accredited by GFAS to date are in Pennsylvania and Arizona.

In the next president’s message, Emily will report fully on this important event in our history, including recognizing some of the dedicated individuals and organizations that have made this possible. In the meantime, we hope every member and supporter of Horse Harbor will take just pride in what they have helped accomplish.

Sincerely,

Allen and Maryann
