"Rosie" is the short name for Wild Irish Rose, a 25-year-old Quarter Horse/Appaloosa
mix. She was born on St. Patrick's Day 1984, and she and her mother, Sam, another Foundation horse, have been with the Foundation
all their lives.
Rosie was not a rescue, but she has gone through her fair share of "rescues"
on her own. In 1994, she caught her hoof through a fence and the wire cut through her fetlock down to the hoof, causing severe
bleeding. It took many stitches and six months before the hoof grew back, and she now has to wear special shoes.
Despite and perhaps because of her immense energy and willpower, Rosie is hugely beneficial to
the school. Because her mother is semi-retired in her age, Rosie has become Allen's main teaching horse and is also a
good challenge for more experienced riders.
